The Well-Read Muslim:a blog for Muslim parents and teachers

I want to share with you today a blog which I think is a great resource for parents and teachers of children five-year and under. The Well Read Muslim is a blog by author and early childhood teacher, Umm An-Nu’man

The focus of the blog is on developing a love for reading in young children and Sister Umm An-Nu’man does this in a variety of ways. From useful literacy tips and detailed lesson plans to reviews of resource books that would equip parents with the necessary information to get their children involved in reading.

Even though it’s a relatively new blog (just about five months), there is a lot of useful information available. I particularly like the Storytime feature which takes a look at a picture book or easy reader nonfiction book and evaluates how it can be used and what in it that’s Islamically appropriate/inappropriate.

So if you’re a teacher or parent check out The Well Read Muslim blog – Also have a look at Umm An-Nu’man’s other blog, A Muslim Child is Born, where she has a great early literacy project taking place every month.
