Literacy Checklist

If you’re a teacher you’re going to find the literacy checklist designed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children useful. It lists various ways in which you can integrate reading and writing into every aspect of your classroom, from kindergarten and up to grade three (ages 4 to 8).

I really like the way in which the checklist progresses from the general to the specific. So that the teacher is asked to examine how s/he creates a “the Literate Environment” and then to incorporate aspects of texts and writing into various activities. I think even parents would find this list helpful.

See the literacy checklist here.
